Heading Out

Hello family!

We are excitedly making our way to Philadelphia to catch our red-eye flight to London. We wanted to keep a family journal of our trip and since some of you have asked about sharing pictures and progress we thought we’d keep everything here where its available to all of us. Each family member who decides to do a reflection on a day will create a separate post, so don’t miss any! Here is our rough itinerary for the next two weeks:

Wednesday 9/25 - Fly from Philly (6:40pm) to London (6:20am) - Thursday 9/26

Thursday 9/26 - London: British Museum and Library. Catch sleeper train in the evening headed to Scotland!

Friday 9/27 - arrive (well rested ;)) in Fort William, Scotland and after train/ferry/rental car arrive on the Isle of Skye at our cottage around 5pm.

Saturday 9/28 - Tuesday 10/1 - Isle of Skye hiking and exploring. Our cottage is outside of the town of Portnalong on the Ardtreck Peninsula

Wednesday 10/2 - Hogwarts Express Steam Train! travel from Skye to Aviemore in the Cairngorms National Park, Highlands.

Thursday 10/3 - Visit the herd of wild reindeer and climb Ord Ban in Cairngorms.

Friday 10/4 - Travel to Edinburgh, discover what there is to see on the way!

Saturday 10/5 - Edinburgh. Arthur’s Seat, Edinburgh Castle, etc.

Sunday 10/6 - Drive to Holy Island/Lindisfarne and enter during the low tide. Stay the night!

Monday 10/7 - Alnwick Castle (Hogwarts), Segedunum Roman Fort & Hadrian’s Wall and Evensong at Durham Cathedral. Stay the night at Redworth Hall in Newton Aycliffe.

Tuesday 10/8 - Yorkshire Dales. Ripon Cathedral, Brimham Rocks and Bolton Abbey. Stay the night at Royd’s Mill in Oxenhope, Bronte Country.

Wednesday 10/9 - visit Manchester and the oldest Public Library, drive to Oxford. Stay in the dorms at St Stephens College. Visit the Eagle and Child pub.

Thursday 10/10 - Punting in Oxford. Train to London. Evensong at Westminster Abbey and walking tour of Big Ben etc. Stay in flat in Pimlico. 

Friday 10/11 - Tube to Heathrow. Fly Home! (12:40 pm)
